Cybernet Systems Wins Shot At $17.5 Billion

Ann Arbor's Cybernet Systems Corp. has won two contracts to provide simulation and training products to the United States Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation.

These contracts allow Cybernet to provide PEO STRI the full spectrum of warfighter simulation, training, modeling, test and instrumentation products for use throughout the Army, the Department of Defense, and other coalition members.

Cybernet competed for these contracts over the last 18 months, and can now compete for individual work tasks in support of modeling and simulation requirements. The contracts will be in place for 10 years and are estimated to have a total lifetime value of $17.5 billion.

Cybernet will be competing against other firms for a slice of the funding as projects are announced and bid.

"What it does is give us a license to compete for those contracts," Charles Cohen, vice president of research and development. "If we hadn't got that it would have meant we would be shut out completely."

Cybernet won under two contracts up for competition -- one restricted to small businesses, and another "full and open" contract open to all comers, including the giants of the defense industry.

“Cybernet has more than 20 years of extensive experience in modeling, simulation and training, delivering products and services through commercial licensing and over 100 completed contracts in these areas,” said Heidi Jacobus, Chairman and CEO. “We are eager to use our capabilities to support the warfighter’s needs.”

Cybernet simulation and training capabilities include:

  • Virtual Systems Integration Laboratory (VSIL), which provides open interoperability between simulation models generated by different manufacturers.
  • Highly portable Geo-Location/Situation Awareness products for Geo-pairing, Blue Force Tracking, Robotics, and weapon/muzzle orientation/tracking solutions based on solid state, magnetic, GPS, and FOG technology fusion.
  • Gesture and human motion detection/analysis for intent, behavior, and command generation: for instance hand motion controlled presentations and dismount soldier training.
  • Open standard massive multiplayer HLA/DIS gaming technology, terrain generation, and cockpit/part task trainer integration for vehicle and flight simulation, training and mission rehearsal operations.
  • Rapid prototyping in software, electronics, plastic, and other materials.
