Automated Behavior and Cohesion Assessment Tools

Project Mission | Intellectual Property | Project Status | Project Summary (PDF)

NASA has a need for a system to unobtrusively monitor crew cohesiveness, performance, and attitude during long duration space missions and identify potential abnormalities for feedback to astronauts and flight surgeons for further investigation. In support of the development of such a system for NASA, during this effort we will:

Identify objective measures of team cohesion, productivity, and affect drawn from what we believe to be a nearly comprehensive list of relevant measures identified as part of an extremely broad review related to team cohesion, team performance, and individual mood and attitude;

Identify specific data acquisition technologies (including sociometric badges, computer use monitoring software, and task performance log analyzers) that will provide the required inputs, and in many cases multi-use inputs, to subsequent data processing algorithms;

Identify a pragmatic series of data processing steps and algorithms that will provide values for the objective measures identified above;

Design an integrating multi-layer architecture (called the Automated Behavior and Cohesion Assessment Tools (ABCAT) system) that provides a framework for modular insertion of data acquisition and processing layers and which defines a clear data flow from the raw information to the final models of social cohesiveness, collective and individual task performance, and individual attitude.

Automated Behavior and Cohesion Assessment Tools (ABCAT).
